Writing a winning CV

A winning CV includes relevant information about your skills, experience, education and achievements. 

1. Start with your personal information

Make sure that you include your full name, gender, age, location, phone number and email address. 

2. Write a statement of objective

This section gives a summary of your abilities and offers key information about you. Keep this to three or four sentences so it's short, simple and concise. Highlight the reason you're applying for the job. 

3. List your work experience.

Keep the job objectives in mind, highlighting achievements rather than duties.  Make sure to be concise in your text and consider using bullet points to keep the resume readable and scannable. Consider including action words that highlight key points.

4. List education and training

List all your educational qualifications including your high school senior certificate. If you hold more than one degree or relevant certification, list them by the completion date. Include the names of the institutions and their locations. List your degree along with the field earned. If you graduated recently, add the date you earned the degree.

5. Highlight relevant skills

Remember to include hard and soft skills as they pertain to the position.

6. Leadership and extracurricular activities

List any clubs or leadership positions along with the dates you held the position.

7. Honours and awards

List awards you have won for academic excellence, volunteer or job-related honours

 

 Keep your font simple and legible. Consider Verdana or Arial, typically 12-point and proofread for grammar or spelling errors.
