Managing Director Johannesburg City Parks and Zoo 5 years Fixed Term Contract – Annual Salary: 2 055 005 – R 3 147 538 Johannesburg City Parks and Zoo (NPC) JCPZ is a non-profit legal entity wholly owned by the City of Johannesburg Metropolitan Municipality. It was established as a Municipal Owned Entity mandated to develop, maintain and conserve the green open public spaces and cemeteries in Johannesburg, as well as the Johannesburg Zoo. The Managing Director will lead, direct and control the entity and assist in formulating policies for the City of Johannesburg with respect to integrated parks, open public spaces, green facilities, and positioning the Zoo as an internationally recognized conservation institution and related programs. JCPZ seeks a strong and capable individual to lead its operation to the Board of Directors, the Managing Director is the Accounting Officer of JCPZ, taking overall accountability for the entity. Experience: At least 7years proven track record as a successful executive manager in a similar environment, have the ability to drive and advocate transformational change, to demonstrate proven leadership experience positioning an organization and managing strategic partnerships and stakeholder relationships. Qualifications: Post-graduate business qualifications relevant to the position and/or MBA/MBL Specific Skills and Knowledge: In depth knowledge of the following: In depth knowledge of current issues and challenges facing Johannesburg City Parks and Zoo. Knowledge of JCPZ and government Policies and Procedures. In depth knowledge of financial and organisational management. Knowledge of fund raising and financing solutions. Knowledge of corporate governance and risk management principles, methodologies and processes. Knowledge of marketing and communication methodologies. National, Provincial and Local authority operations. Competent in oral and written reporting. Proven network and stakeholder experience and a visionary par excellence. Personal Attributes: Results Orientation; Stakeholder Orientation; Resilience; Emotional Intelligence and situational sensitivity; Values; Decisiveness and People Orientation Job Outputs: As the Accounting Officer of JCPZ, the incumbent must lead and direct the Municipal Entity by providing strategic leadership, policy guidelines, governance and compliance to ensure overall efficiency and effectiveness of the organization; and be responsible for the following: One of the Managing Director’s key accountabilities is to provide JCPZ with the required direction, leadership and guidance for the development and implementation of a long term strategy and annual business plan. The key challenge is to drive the transformation of JCPZ’s culture to that of a Customer focused and high performance organisation and to strengthen the strategic and operational leadership capacity and capability. As the Head of the organisation, employees will look towards this role for direction, inspiration and to ensure that JCPZ can be recognised as a preferred employer. Accountabilities include:
The Managing Director will lead and direct various initiatives and tasks, including: Analysis of various policy initiatives regarding the orientation; focus, services and programmes of the entity; Designing innovative strategies to enhance capabilities and functions; Designing and implementing short and long-term programs; Working closely with national and provisional partners on issues of common mandate and focus; Oversight and coordination of various initiatives with the City’s structures on issues of common mandate and focus; Developing positive relationships with community organisations, academia, the business sector, and non-profit institutions on behalf of the City; Lead and direct the entity’s focus on sustainable and visible service delivery; Planning and development of budget priorities and initiatives for the entity and its functions; Attending and providing support at public events and meetings for the Mayor, MMC, Board and City Manager; Completing special projects and assignments consistent with the mandate and mission of the entity at the direction of the Mayor, MMC, Board and City Manager; and The Managing Director is also expected to act as the Accounting Officer of Johannesburg City Parks and Zoo (JCPZ).
